Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) Youth Support

An alternative provision education provider in Wigan has a vacancy for a youth support assistant to start immediately. The PRU caters to students between 4-16 years and provides education for pupils with challenging behaviour, social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) and Special Educational Needs (SEND).

The school has only 35 students enrolled currently and operates reduced class sizes to enable each learner to receive provision that is tailored to meet their individual academic and social-emotional needs. The school aims to provide pupils with the academic skills needed to improve their life chances, with hope of integrating them back to mainstream education. Being able to support the classroom teacher, healthcare and therapeutic professionals in creating an engaging classroom environment is important as the young people who attend the provision are disengaged from education.

This is a great opportunity for those with experience with challenging youth behaviour:

Desirable

-          Previous experience working with SEMH/SEN

-          Classroom support experience

-          Team Teach training (training can be provided)

Essential

-          Commitment to supporting vulnerable students in a specialist environment
