The role involves delivering high-quality mathematics education to secondary school students in line with the national curriculum. The successful candidate will plan, prepare and teach engaging lessons that support students’ mathematical understanding and development. They will assess and monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs. The post holder will contribute to creating a positive learning environment that encourages students to achieve their full potential.

  • Plan and deliver effective mathematics lessons tailored to the curriculum requirements and students’ abilities.
  • Assess, record and report on student progress and achievement in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Create and maintain an inclusive, supportive, and stimulating classroom atmosphere.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to engage students and enhance learning outcomes.
  • Provide additional support and intervention for students requiring extra assistance.
  • Prepare students for external examinations and support their revision activities.
  • Maintain professional standards of behaviour and discipline within the classroom.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum development and school initiatives.
  • Engage with parents and carers to discuss student progress and address any concerns.
  • Comply with safeguarding policies and promote the welfare of all students.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • A degree in mathematics or a closely related subject.
  • Experience teaching mathematics at secondary school level, preferably across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Familiarity with the national curriculum and examination specifications.
  • Previous experience of managing classroom behaviour effectively.
  • Strong subject knowledge in mathematics, including algebra, geometry, statistics and number theory.
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competence in using educational technology and digital resources to enhance learning.
  • Good organisational and time management abilities.
  • Capability to assess and provide feedback on student work constructively.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Postgraduate qualification in education or mathematics.
  • Experience teaching GCSE and/or A-level mathematics.
  • Training or experience in special educational needs and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of recent educational developments and assessment methods.

The post is based within a secondary school setting in Weymouth, Dorset. The role requires full-time availability during term time, with occasional attendance at meetings and school events outside of regular teaching hours. The environment is busy and dynamic, requiring resilience and adaptability. The role involves standing for extended periods and managing classroom behaviour. The post holder must adhere to the school’s health and safety policies as well as safeguarding regulations.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
