1:1 SEND/SEMH Maths Tutor - Yeovil

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced 1:1 SEND/SEMH Maths Tutor to provide personalised Maths tuition to a young person in Yeovil. This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.
The successful tutor will have experience supporting students with SEND/SEMH needs and will be confident adapting their teaching style, pace and resources to meet the individual needs of the student.
The role will focus on creating a calm, positive and supportive learning environment where the student feels comfortable and confident to engage. The tutor will build a strong professional relationship with the student while supporting their academic progress, confidence, independence and engagement with education.
The role may involve:
- Providing one-to-one Maths tuition tailored to the student's individual needs and abilities.
- Supporting the student across relevant areas of the Secondary Maths curriculum.
- Planning and delivering engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging lessons.
- Adapting teaching methods, resources, activities and pace to suit the student's learning needs.
- Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted support to help the student progress.
- Breaking down mathematical concepts into clear and manageable steps.
- Developing the student's numeracy, mathematical reasoning, problem-solving and independent learning skills.
- Supporting revision, study skills and assessment preparation where appropriate.
- Encouraging confidence, independence and a positive attitude towards Maths and learning.
- Helping the student overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education.
- Using the student's interests and strengths to make Maths engaging and relevant.
- Monitoring progress and providing regular, constructive feedback.
- Building a positive, consistent and trusting relationship with the student.
- Working collaboratively with parents/carers, schools and other professionals involved in the student's education.
- Maintaining appropriate safeguarding and professional boundaries at all times.
Essential requirements:
- Experience teaching or tutoring Maths at secondary level.
- A good understanding of the Secondary Maths curriculum.
- Experience working with SEND/SEMH students.
- Experience providing one-to-one or highly personalised educational support is desirable.
- Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
- A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
- Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence supporting students who may have experienced barriers or difficulties within a traditional classroom environment.
- Ability to build trust and encourage students to develop confidence and independence.
- A genuine commitment to supporting the academic and wider development of young people.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
